This is a fictionalized version of the first major cattle drive from Texas to Kansas, the pioneers of the cattle trail. Abilene wasn’t even ready to receive the thousands of cattle yet and the Indian Territory was considered an insurmountable object between Texas and Kansas. Only desperation made this first group try, and they staked everything on the last chance of getting cattle through.
The story of the trail is fascinating and I loved learning all about the cattle drive.
Content: a bad guy ends in a grisly death (literally sickening. One-sentence description was quite enough nasty detail.) Handful of profanities; murder, accidental death, stampede, drowning, etc etc
